ok, I got your pics....
this is how jason and many other seasoned anglers hold a largemouth:

here's a jag josh caught and there's pbass's hand coming in from the left to take hold of the jag as he would a largemouth:

BUT WAIT J! JAGS HAVE TEETH!

Too late. Josh told him to, "Go 'head."

what else would you do with some fresh blood and a nearby guardrail besides profess your devotion:

basically every drive looked like this.

jags and oscar in collecting bins. Bins were 20-24" long... you do the math.

Josh has the rest of the pics for uploading. They'll look better when he does them and you can see the rest of the jags and such.

there was a canal where we saw some huge peacock bass, atleast 20" but for some reason they weren't biting,, in the same place were some big midas cichlids as well which were also not biting so we went looking for the gars,,

Mar 14 2004, 08:32 PM
tell me about it. That gar was awesome.... but I think the owner of the gar was being debated up until it's death. Mark was laying a pretty strong claim to it.
here that gar is shoe-horned into the 20" long styro.

the gar bounty (just for you nishoo

)

has no idea about the impending doom of the cast net

flossing the kickass new camera:

banana spider in the exotic Weiss compond (body around 2.5" long):

yay! another bullhead!

off to the left (that little white glimmer by itself) is j's nice buzz-bait... lost it 20' offshore on our (a little over-zealous) first night.

I better stop there for now... this thread should have a load warning. Sorry.

My brother saw some in a lake up here, unless he misidentified them but I doubt it. Not sure if they were dropped off during that season at that size though, could have been there only during warm weather and hadn't gotten to a winter yet.

that bowfin was insane. I had an intense hit from him, pbass had 2 and so did josh. The fish was an animal. Too bad someone else wasn't holding my rod when it took my hook. J or josh could have definitely got brought bad boy in since my hook was set very well.
Well, we know exactly where to get him. His stomping ground was about 20' to the west of where we parked the car at location 2. He'll be there when we go back next year.

did you guys bring any small gars back?
Josh
Mar 14 2004, 09:15 PM
We caught small gars, but for some reason, they all kicked the bucket at marc's place. Sorry I've been so slow with the pics, but, my mother is visiting, and, well, she's kiking it up by making me clean every square inch of my apartment. *sigh* Later tonight guys, later tonight.

Seriously though... sounds like a great trip! Bowfin are sweet fish. I'd love to have one in a tank some time.
Seeing gators all around must be amazing! I used to boat in canals in Texarkana (is this right?) as a kid and always looked.

as close as we came to the midas... but J's been reading up and we know how to get them now.

the big gar... josh decided to put the strap for my camera in its mouth. It immediately clamped down, cute.

part of mark's setup. Some dats, an undescribed pike and a big LEGAL frt. Yeah, legal.... eat your heart out.

some of mark's sweet stori (sp?) mini monitors. They were like 8" total and in an AWESOME lush setup.

i took this from nishant's car going about 60mph to illustrate how closely josh tails people just on habit. He could have open lanes on either side but he'd be this close. wacko.

What does that have to do with going on a fishing trip? If I was closer to the Deep South, I'd be there myself! Instead, the only thing you're gonna catch in the f*&^*(#&%&#&cking Rockies is the flu/cold/WNV/etcetcetc

or you could catch a plane to florida like J and I did.

here are some more pics b/c it's a new page...
this we guessed was a little tilapia... but we're not sure. It came back in the cast-net with a bunch of port cichlids (josh has pics of the ports)

but... I have to go back to work. So, more tonight.
EDIT 032604, I have it from a reputable source that this is probably an aquidens species. There is a rather common type that it strongly resembles, but I have forgotten the species name and don't have the aqualog I used to look it up.
