Ijust bought a florida gar about 2 weeks ago, he hasnt been eating much. The guy at the lfs said they have been feeding him flakes, but i only feed my fish krill. he doesnt ackowledge the food too much, and when he does he only pokes at it. He has eaten it though so i don think he is starving. he also spends most of the day up in the corner away from most of the fish and at night sinks to the buttom. is trhis normal behavior or is he maybe afraid of the fish because at the store he was always hiding from the pacu he was with.

Hes in a 75 gallon tank with an albno clown knife, a texas cichlid a small pleco, what i believe could be a redhead cichlid, a very small geophagus, and a choclate cichlid,

How big is the gar? Try feeding raw shrimp or pieces of raw fish.

One thing that I have found works great to get a fish like this eating non swimming prey is to use a sewing needle and thread. Put a piece of fish or earthworm on the end of the needle and jig it close to the gar and it should snap at it quickly. They quickly learn that when the top of the aquarium is raised that food is coming in now. Then you do not have to use the needle anymore.
