I have been working on a pond in my parents back yard. it is 12'x12'x3.5' with a small stream about 18" wide and 20' long that runs into a 4'x4'x4' tank in the ground where the pump will be located at. the pump will run the water from there to the fall which is about 15' or so from the lower tank. first of all Im not sure of the gallons on it and second, what size pump do you think I need to run the fall which will be about 3' or so high and also feed the stream? I was looking at one that was 11,000 GPH but was wondering if thats overkill. Im totally blind on this part. any help getting this thing setup would be nice.
Thanks guys

is that reall a 20 foot long stream? That's kinda long for it only being 18 inches wide, why in the world do you have a 4x4x4 box for a pump? THAT is overkill. So you got 20 foot stream and a 12 foot pond so your looking at 32 foot length that pump has to push water. Hose is waht 2 or 3 inch? Yeah that will be a good GPH for that size. God thats a monster stream why so long? oh and the pond is approx 3771 gal the box is 478 gal and the stream does not have a depth so I cant get that one. for future reference, Volume of the tank = Length x Height x Depth x 0.00433

what i would do is run a line from a pool pump pushing around 3000 gph for the upstream piping go from a wide pipe roughly 2 feet then split in 3 inch and a half pipes to the top of the fall. that should create enough back pressure so the water flow should be good and it should not be to rough on the pump.

i would make that 5000 gph

Well I am just making it the way my mother wants it, the stream is probably closer to 24" wide and its only a few inches deep. The 4x4x4 tote is at the end of the stream and like I said, Its what my mom wanted not me. But the stream had to end somewhere and that was as good a place as any. I am mainly wanting to get info on the pump so I can get her the right GPH for her setup.

too much pump is not a bad thing as far as I have experienced
