I caught a few minutes of a National Geographic special last night and they were studying whether or not the varying conditions of the Congo River were causing new subspecies of fish to develop. They were primarily studying the Goliath Tigerfish in the last 10 minutes (which is all I saw) but they did and said something that really blew me away.

I've searched online to try and find this but can't. They had Kayakers traverse 80-something miles of the river with depth finders and said that they found part of the Congo river that is over 700 feet deep.

700 FEET DEEP!

Did anybody else see this? Here's the site that was listed on screen: http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/

They had some great shots of Goliaths too.

My guess would be 700 meters deep, not miles... just my best guess though.

Guys, I dont know if this has been answered yet else where on the forum but if you have digital cable this special can be played on the "HD Showcase on demend" channel, under the national geographic section. The title of the special is "Monster Congo Fish"

This link shows it will be on again FEB. 10th
