hello, i will be going on holiday to st petes beach florida in aug/sep this year from the uk and would like to catch some cichlids of any species with rod and line. just wanting to know the best methods and what species are there. i will be driving the 2-3hr trip to the big cypress reserve is it possible to fish there. any info much appriciated andy

thanks for the reply chrism. i enjoyed reading through the old posts even without some of the pictures, ive got no chance of changing the dates of the holiday its been booked for over 18 months and i cant get any other dates off work! fingers crossed we will miss any major hurricanes.

I don't know what kind of cichlids we have but I can say they get over a foot long. All you have to do is walk down a canal bank that isn't to deep and you see these big burrow hole and there is a big ass cichlid in just about everone of them. You will also see some plecos that are over a foot long chilling like they do in a tank. I wish I had my fishing pole with me then I would catch them and take some pics for you.
